The Cantabrian breeze that flows into Nómada, located just a few meters from the sea, is the inspiration for “Zurriola Beach,” a rug from the “Basque Ocean” collection.
Of all the beaches in the Basque Country, Zurriola Beach is the one that most reminds me of the beaches in my native Scotland, due to its exposure to the elements and tides. After designing rugs inspired by the well-known beaches along the Basque coast (Concha, Ondarreta, Biarritz, Deba, and Elkano), I recently added the lesser-known of the three San Sebastián beaches, Zurriola, to the series. Zurriola Beach, though urban, retains a wild, untamed feel, exposed to the tides, storms, and elements, evoking images of young people surfing, bodyboarding, surfskiing, and engaging in other wave sports.
Through this rug, I wanted to capture the youthful, dynamic spirit of the beach, without forgetting the power and danger of the sea. The base color reflects Zurriola on a sunny summer day, the edges represent waves crashing as they approach the shore, and the white lines symbolize the trails left by surfboards.
To complete the “Zurriola Beach” rug, 14 different colors were used to capture the subtle changes in the sea’s color.
It took two artisans about 5 months to weave this rug.

The designs are sent to Nepal, and after a long process of washing, spinning, carding, dyeing and weaving, we present you these beautiful modern rugs. Other sizes are made on request.
