Semi-nomadic tribe (probably of Luri origin) who inhabit the Bakhtiari region of Iran, near the town of Shah Reza. Pile rugs are quite finely knotted, employ good quality wool (which is also normally used for warps and wefts) and tend to be fairly long and narrow. Designs are usually based on repeating hooked-diamonds, or other geometric motifs – although amulet/medallion, panelled and latticed formats are also found – in an often dazzling interplay of contrasting reds, blues, greens, yellow, orange, cream and white.
