A vintage little Yalameh rug woven with a pattern commonly used in bigger rugs consisting in three interlocked central motifs. The border is more elaborate and complex than the ones in other Yalameh rugs. The wool is nice and soft and the motifs are very similar to those used by the Luri or Lori nomads.
Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool
Size: 80×53 cms
Origin: Yalameh tribe, Iran
Date of weaving: 1970s
Semi-nomadic tribe (probably of Luri origin) who inhabit the Bakhtiari region of Iran, near the town of Shah Reza. Pile rugs are quite finely knotted, employ good quality wool (which is also normally used for warps and wefts) and tend to be fairly long and narrow. Designs are usually based on repeating hooked-diamonds, or other geometric motifs – although amulet/medallion, panelled and latticed formats are also found – in an often dazzling interplay of contrasting reds, blues, greens, yellow, orange, cream and white.
