Vintage kilim from the Shiraz region, Iran. This vintage kilim was handwoven by a nomadic or village woman, using her own hand-spun and carded wool.
Around the 1950s, tribes of Arab origin from southern Iran settled in and around Shiraz. With them they brought their techniques and motifs and continued to weave their kilims. This vintage kilim woven around 1950, stands out for its elegant composition that, through a rather formal border, frames a central field of small repeated rhomboidal motifs that creates dyagonal motifs in the main field of the kilim. All the original fringes are in mint condition. Very robust and solid kilim that will hold up well to heavy use.
