It is unusual to find a semi antique Baluch kilims with a black background, as it is the case with this piece. The original black colour has faded into a beautiful grey with lots of changes of colour, also called abrash. The pattern is small and detailed and can only be achieved by using finely spun wool. The weaver was probably a nomad and had only access to a small loom and therefore had to weave two long kilims and join them at the center to achieve a wider flatweave. The kilim has a stain in the upper part.
