Semi-antique Salihi kilim runner from Turkey- Combining beautifully warm and cold hues
This semi-antique kilim runner comes from Salihli, Turkey, and features a striking design with three full serrated medallions and two half medallions at either end. The oversized rhomb motifs span the full width of the kilim, creating a bold and dynamic visual impact.
Unlike most traditional layouts, this runner has borders on only two sides. The remaining edges are left open with half medallions, giving the impression that the pattern continues beyond the frame—an effect that adds depth and movement.
The piece also displays beautiful abrash throughout—natural variations in color that occur during the dyeing process, adding richness and character to the kilim. A beautiful colour palette that combines cold and warm tones of orange, lilac, grey and a lovely pistacio green.
A unique and vibrant choice for a corridor or a narrow hallway.

Salihi kilims—sometimes spelled Salihli—originate from the town of Salihli in the Manisa province of western Turkey, an area once part of ancient Lydia. These kilims are rooted in the traditions of Turkmen and Yörük tribes, whose weaving practices were passed down through generations. Often made for personal or domestic use rather than commercial trade, Salihi kilims carry a sense of authenticity and cultural intimacy.
Their designs are typically geometric, with motifs like diamonds, hooks, ram’s horns, and the elibelinde—a stylized female figure symbolizing fertility—appearing frequently. Patterns often run in structured rows or repeat rhythmically across the field, framed by simple, balanced borders. The colour palette leans toward earthy tones: terracotta, rust, dark green, deep indigo, and ivory, sometimes with touches of brighter contrast like red or blue.
Salihi kilims are flatwoven using the traditional slit-tapestry technique, and they’re usually made entirely from wool—both warp and weft. Their texture tends to be tight and fine, with a sturdy feel that makes them not just beautiful but also durable. Originally crafted for use in nomadic tents or village homes, today they’re perfect for bringing warmth, history, and texture to hallways, living rooms, or even as wall hangings.
