This semi-antique Persian Luri (or Lori) rug is woven with soft, lustrous wool, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship. The warp is made from goat wool, which can be seen in the original fringes, still in mint condition and completely intact.
The main field of this carpet features three geometric medallions set against a deep red background, filled with small, randomly scattered motifs that evoke the feeling of a flourishing flower and plant garden.
In contrast, the border is more structured, with formal palmette designs and fewer improvisational elements. This creates a beautiful balance between the dynamic, artistic center and the more orderly border, highlighting the rug’s harmonious design.

Lurs (or Lors) are an Iranian people living mainly in western and southwestern Iran. There is also a significant population of Lurs in eastern and central parts of Iraq The word Luristan or Lorestan, is attributed to the areas inhabited by the Lurs. The boundaries of Luristan stretch from the eastern Iraqi plains to the west and southwest of Iran. Today, Lorestan is the name of one of the western provinces of Iran. Luristan´s rugged terrain, which still bars easy access from Iraq, favored integrity of style. The Luri wool tends to be soft and shinny.
