A semi-antique Gazni Mogur Baluch prayer kilim. The weaver of this kilim woven a plain kilim with horizontal bands, breaking the horizontality by introducing one curvy Mihrab or prayer niche.
The prayer niche resembles amountain peak and there are many theories that point to the fact that the prayer rugs evolved from previous motifs from the Neolithic times, where Sacred Mountains were portrayed.
Although this kilim appears to be a simple striped kilim, on closer inspection, we notice a great deal of detail in each of the stripes, and also an enormous variety of motifs amongst the horizontal lines.
