Corum cicim- a gateway to the mistery

A colorful semi-antique Corum kilim from Turkey, arranged in horizontal bands of varying widths. Each band is lovingly decorated using the cicim technique, adding a striking three-dimensional texture. Interestingly, the weaver left the motifs on the most embellished bands unfinished on both the left and right sides—an artistic choice that invites us to wonder about her intention.

The black areas are woven with undyed wool.

With its vibrant hues, detailed cicim embroidery, and charming, improvised design, this Corum kilim is sure to spark conversation and become a standout piece in any space!

Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool

Size: 230×155 cms

Origin: Bakhtiari tribe, Iran

Date of weaving: 1960s

Çorum, a region in central Anatolia, is known for its bold and expressive kilims—especially those decorated with cicim embroidery. Unlike patterns woven directly into the fabric, cicim is added afterward, using extra threads that are wrapped or stitched onto the surface. This creates a raised, textured effect that gives the kilim depth and character.

In Çorum kilims, cicim is more than decoration—it’s storytelling. Each embroidered motif can carry symbolic meaning, from protection to fertility, or simply reflect the weaver’s creativity and mood. Often improvised, these designs reveal a freedom of expression that makes each piece unique.
