A highly unusual Baluch prayer kilim, woven with the Mihrab or prayer niche sideways, yet intended to be displayed as shown in the picture. The composition is unique, with the border framing the main field vertically. The primary motifs are large eight-pointed stars. Decorative tassels, added onto the kilim and not part of its original structure, contribute an air of mystery to this rare and distinctive piece.

The Baloch or Baluch are an Iranian people who live mainly in the Balochistan region, located at the southeasternmost edge of the Iranian plateau, encompassing the countries of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. There are also Baloch diaspora communities in neighbouring regions, including in India, Turkmenistan and the Arabian Peninsula.
