This Persian semi-antique kilim woven around the 1950s stands out for its elegant composition achieved through a very formal border that frames a central field with a repeated motive arranged horizontaly. The colours are slightly faded, including an aubergine and a ochre colour, and is woven with the interlocking weave. A sturdy and solid kilim that will stand well heavy traffic.
Around the 1950s, tribes of Arab origen from Southern Iran settled in Shiraz and in the region. The weavers brough with then their techniques and motives and continued weaving kilims.

Arab nomads of Fars Province, Iran, are descended from certain Arab tribes of Najd, Yammaneh and Omman who migrated in the 7th and 8th centuries following the Arab contest (640 A.D.) and the advent of Islam. They speak a corruption of Arabic and Persian.
Althoug Arab nomad piled production encompasses a great and astonishing variety of designs, with field patterns much more varied than other tribes of Fars, the Arab weaver´s adherance to a generally dark and sober palette has denied them the artistic recognition they deserve.
