The Yomut or Yomud are a Turkmen tribe living from Gorgan to Turkmenbashi and the eastern shores of the Caspian and Khiva and Dashoguz.
This sack is a torba or bag woven by women from the Yomut tribe of Turkmenistan used to store household items and hung on the wall of the yurt. The workmanship on the decorative bands is very well executed and the bag is in excellent condition. The yarn is extremely fine, resulting in a job of great technical precision. This is a wonderful ethnographic piece that can still be used for storage. Just put a couple of straps on it, hang it on the wall, and fill it with things you don’t know where to store. It can also be used as a cushion, or as a headboard. In good condition, with a few repairs.
Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool and cotton in some small white areas
