This stunning antique Turkman Ersari rug features a practical squarish shape. The traditional Ersari güls, with their distinctive three-petaled flowers, are spaced out gracefully, creating the illusion of floating against a rich terracotta backdrop. The background itself is not a uniform color but instead showcases a beautiful abrash, with subtle shifts in hue that add depth to the design.
The wool is soft and lustrous, and all the dyes are natural, including a range of terracotta shades, indigo blue, and accents of undyed white wool. The rug has a low to medium pile, with some areas that have been carefully rewoven.

Ersari (Turkmen: Ärsary, where Er – brave man, master; sari – light, bright, yellow) are one of the major tribes of the Turkmen people of Central Asia and one of the five major tribes of the country of Turkmenistan. They live mainly in Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.. Regarding their rugs and contrary to the custom of the other Turkmen, the Ersaris have no proper gul, or specific tribal motif.
Ersari carpets make more use of yellow than do rugs made by other tribes, and often, in backgrounds, two shades of blue blend or are merged with dark brown in a characteristic fashion.
