An exquisitely woven antique Qashqai kilim from southwest Iran. The central motifs, the emblem of the Qashqai tribe, is beautifully repeated across the rich terracotta field. The color transitions diagonally, creating a sense of movement from left to right. The symmetry is subtly disrupted by the introduction of four large motifs in each corner. Charming smaller eight-point stars fill the empty spaces, adding a tribal, spontaneous feel to this lovely piece.
The kilim features multiple borders, including a unique one made up of half medallions in green and blue. The longer ends are finished with the traditional horizontal Qashqai weaving.
All dyes used are natural and of the highest quality. This piece must have held significant value, as reflected in the fine spinning of the wool, which is truly exceptional. There are some minor repairs.
