A fantastic antique Afghan Baluch prayer rug. The design is creative and unusual. The wool is of superior quality, soft and shinny and dyed with natural dyes. The prayer field is occupied by a lattice motif in which lower part a couple of interesting chequered shapes have been woven. Next to where the mihrab is, where the hand will have touched the ground during prayer, two schematically drawn tree motifs have been woven. This prayer rug has three main borders, two of them with the ´s´ protective motive and the third one with an arrow shaped design.
The rug has a couple of large kilim ends. Worn in places.
Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool
Size: 125×90 cms
Origin: Baluch tribe, Afghanistan
Date of weaving: 1940s
